How Ros is planning for retirement

Ros is 41 and lives with Bob – her border terrier – in Sheffield. She works for a charity, enjoys cooking and food blogging, and loves taking Bob for walks in the Peak District.

“I’ve started to think about my pension now more,” she says. “I’ve looked at my workplace pensions and reviewed those, as I’ve had various different employers.”

After meeting with a financial adviser, Ros decided to check her State Pension online.

She says: “I checked my State Pension online, and I now know what amount I’ll get. So I’m looking at my options to strike the right balance.”

Ros says she takes a pragmatic view on saving for retirement, and she doesn’t want to stop living in the present.

She says: “I know that I want to put more into my pension pot, but equally I want to be realistic, and enjoy the here and now.

“I know what my State Pension will be when I retire, so I’ll have that. I’m also going to increase my workplace pension contributions a little bit. So I’m hoping with saving more, reducing my mortgage payments, and increasing my pension contributions I will be ok. I think I’m being very responsible!”
